So, Thanksgiving was great—don’t get me wrong. The traditional food coma was actually a bit of a challenge to hit this year because, believe it or not, everything I ate was plant-based. I had my portions calculated, my plate strategically divided like a military operation. But then... there was the apple thing my wife made. Let’s just say I had “more than planned” (okay, fine, it was a lot more), but I’m pretty sure my calories didn’t go completely off the rails. I mean, apple is technically a fruit, right? That counts for something.
By the time I rolled into today, I felt it. The restlessness. The "okay, you've been chill long enough, let’s get back to it" energy. You know, like when your dog starts pacing near the leash because you haven’t taken them out in 24 hours? That was me.
I tried to meditate. I tried to breathe deeply and let my inner zen sort it out. Didn’t work. The projects I’ve been working on were calling me like sirens on a rocky shore—dangerous, but irresistible. And yes, I’ve heard all the advice about stepping away from work to refresh and recharge. That’s cute. But when your work and hobbies blend into one ADHD-fueled creative tornado, stepping away feels like turning your back on your soul.
So, I decided to do what any respectable restless soul would: hop in the car, drive to Greensboro, grab some overpriced coffee, and work. This wasn’t just an excuse to caffeinate and sit in a different chair. Oh no, this was strategic. This was an LCT—Long Coffee Trip—the sacred ritual of nomadic productivity seekers like yours truly.
But this time, I wasn’t just dragging my laptop into the mix. Nope, today was the debut the addition of my new RK ROYAL KLUDGE F68 Foldable Low Profile Mechanical Keyboard to my city sling bag kit . Yes, it’s a mouthful, but so is the satisfying clack clack clack it makes.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Why not just use your laptop? Why drag and set up all that extra stuff? Isn’t that overkill?” (Why do all of you sound suspiciously like my wife when you ask these questions?) Look, this is about vibes. Anyone can plop open a laptop, but setting up a portable workstation is a whole mood. It’s the digital nomad energy I’m trying to channel—minus the passport stamps, at least for now.
I’ve officially renamed my trusty sling bag the Urban Nomad Pack (UNP) because everything in my life needs a name and, preferably, a brand. It’s lightweight, high-tech, and makes me feel like I could whip out a James Bond gadget at any moment. The new keyboard fits perfectly inside, like it was made for the role.
But back to the keyboard itself. This isn’t just any foldable keyboard—it’s got full travel keys. If you’ve ever typed on those sad, flat, floppy foldable keyboards that scream “compromise,” you’ll understand why this matters. This thing feels legit. Like I’m hacking into the Pentagon in a 1980s movie. It’s the tactile clickity-clack that makes you feel like you’re accomplishing something, even if you’re just typing “lorem ipsum” to test it out.
Anyway, today’s goal was straightforward: work on Project B Roll and NOT hyperfocus to the point of exhaustion. For anyone else, that sounds like a reasonable goal. For me, it’s a Herculean task. The moment I sit down to do something, my brain is like, “Okay, great, let’s just finish it all right now so we can stress out about something else tomorrow.” But no. Not today. Today, I filmed a little. Wrote a little. Took a break. Filmed some more. It felt weirdly responsible.
Now I’m camped out in the Greensboro NC Public Library, sipping on my second coffee and feeling ridiculously smug about how “nomadic” I look. Sure, I’m not on a beach somewhere with coconuts, but this’ll do. The new keyboard is crushing it, my Urban Nomad Pack is living up to its name, and I’m actually enjoying the process of taking my time with things (at least for now—my moods and workflow can change with the wind).
All in all, not bad for a post-Thanksgiving reset. But next time? I’m totally aiming for that coastal island weekend setup. I mean, why not? Digital nomads can dream too right?
